The Task

We were approached by the entertainment specialist agency Feref to design and build a new website for Working Title Films. The brief was to reimagine the studio’s website from the ground up, modernising its look and feel while fully embracing the rich visual assets drawn from its iconic film and television catalogue. The goal was to create a site that celebrated Working Title’s legacy while presenting the studio in a contemporary, digital-first way.

Our Approach

Digital Gambit was tasked with augmenting Feref’s creative team with technical expertise throughout the project. Feref led the overall creative concept, defining the theme and initial page layouts while providing creative direction across the duration of the build.

In the early stages, we worked closely with Feref to refine the design layouts, developing a comprehensive web style guide to ensure consistency across page elements, components, and interactions. From there, we helped bring the initial static concepts to life, collaborating on animations, transitions, and the creative use of media to create a dynamic, engaging experience throughout the site.

A further challenge was ensuring the site met strict security, accessibility, and inclusivity requirements. We worked closely with Working Title’s parent company, NBCUniversal, to ensure full compliance across all areas.

This included the implementation of OneTrust for cookie consent management, alongside a thorough review of web accessibility to meet WCAG AA standards, covering colour contrast, keyboard navigation, and screen reader compatibility. In addition, we ensured the site presented the correct policies, disclosures, and legal declarations based on the user’s location, meeting all mandatory regional requirements for both Working Title and NBCUniversal.

A key feature of the site is the showcase homepage, which supports both high-impact imagery and short-form video delivered via a DASH-compatible video player. Rather than loading a single, heavyweight video file, the DASH approach streams media in small segments, allowing content to load quickly and seamlessly in the background as users scroll. This creates a smooth, engaging experience that elevates the static imagery and better reflects the cinematic quality of Working Title Films’ catalogue.

The films showcase spans the studio’s entire history, from early titles in the 1980s such as My Beautiful Laundrette, Caravaggio, and Sid and Nancy, through to modern classics including Love Actually, Notting Hill, Shaun of the Dead, and Bridget Jones’s Diary. The site also highlights recent releases such as Blitz, Drive-Away Dolls, and The Substance, presenting a cohesive view of the studio’s evolving body of work.

Other areas of the site include dedicated production pages, featuring trailers, and behind-the-scenes imagery alongside detailed information on each film’s cast and key crew members. These pages provide space to explore individual productions in more depth while maintaining a consistent visual and editorial style across the site.

We also delivered dedicated In Production and News sections, giving Working Title Films the ability to regularly update the site with upcoming projects and the latest press releases. This ensures the website remains current and relevant, while offering audiences an ongoing view into the studio’s evolving slate of work.

The final website was very well received by Feref, NBCUniversal, and Working Title Films. The project successfully delivered a fresh, modern digital presence that reflects the studio’s creative ambition while meeting the rigorous technical, accessibility, and compliance standards required of a global entertainment brand.

The result is a flexible, future-proof platform that provides a compelling space to showcase Working Title’s extensive talent pool and an exciting slate of upcoming film and television productions—celebrating both the studio’s legacy and its continued evolution.
